Way to go Mary Ann! Encouraging family engagement and family reading can make all the difference!
ReplyDeleteLydia and I are enjoying Lawn Boy so far on chapter 7. I like it because its giving us a chance to talk about things we might not otherwise discuss like the stock market or grass cutting styles at baseball fields. Lydia likes that he is saving his money

ReplyDeleteWe are all enjoying the book so far. Although both Miranda and Luke agreed that they didn't think a lawn mower made for a very good birthday present!! Ryan, however, could see the earning potential in such a gift.
ReplyDeleteWell, I am just beginning Chapter 4, but I am now picturing Arnold as a younger version of Bernie Madoff. I wonder if that is how he got his start... I hope this guy is more honest than that!!!

Our second meeting of the year was held last night. About 10 families were there to talk about LawnBoy by Gary Paulsen. The adults thought the story was like a fairy tale and everybody was left with the feeling: if only!
ReplyDeleteThe kids had all that money on their minds as well. Their pictures were mostly green with money and grass. Even our preschool member, Lydia, talked about "all that money" and had it floating and falling all over the picture she drew.
Some of the boys were impressed with Joe Pow and his strength, wondering how his fight could only last 4 and a half seconds!!
Halloween cookies and lemonade and milk were shared before we headed for home to await the arrival of our new book, The BFG.
It arrived at school today and will go home with the kids tomorrow. The cost of this book is $6.00.
Get your BFG voice ready, cause here we go...
Next meeting: Wednesday, 11/11/09 Same time, same place!!!
